How to Join
How to Join
We are always looking for new members and are a friendly and active club. You may join as a prospective member by filling in this form. This doesn't cost anything and allows you access to our private communication channels on Slack and Facebook, which will allow you to attend meets, get to know a few people and generally see if you enjoy the club. You don't have to provide any payment details and will have 2 months to make your mind up. You can register as a prospective member. If you need any further help or guidance then please send us a message on the contact form or via Instagram or Facebook.
Other benefits?
Apart from the obvious benefit of increasing your chances of finding someone to walk or climb with (and to borrow gear off hee hee), there are some other benefits of membership. We are a BMC affiliated club, so membership brings a number of BMC benefits including liability insurance, the ability to buy BMC travel insurance, discounts off huts and courses, discounts of guidebooks in the BMC online shop and various other discounts, including at a range of outdoor retailers (see their page for further details). Being a member of the Clwyd MC also allows you a discount at The Boardroom Climbing Centre in Queensferry and The Climbing Hut in Ellesmere Port. There is 30% off existing prices at Columbia at Cheshire Oaks, even if the prices are already discounted. Members receive a copy of the club journal The Clwydian annually.
Under 18s
We allow under 18’s to attend club meets, but only when accompanied by an adult member who is their parent/carer or is in loco parentis. An under 18 may become a member only if their parent/carer is a member.
What happens after Prospective Membership expires?
Near the end of the 2 months, you'll be contacted by our membership secretary to ask if you want to join as a full member. You will be required to make a payment, which can be done online. If you decide you don't want to continue, then you don't need to take any action. If you decide you want to continue and be a full member, you will be required to make a payment to join for at least a year or half a year - see fees below. If you don't continue, then you will lose access to the private communication channels and won’t be able to join meets again until you pay.
Fees
When you are ready to become a full, paid up member, fees for 2024 are:
Full Membership £33 (or £16.50 from 1 July)
Unwaged/Student £25 (or £12.50 from 1 July)
Membership is for a calendar year (Jan to Dec) or if you join in the second half of a year (1 July onwards) you pay half the annual fee.
BMC Participation Statement
The CMC is affiliated to the British Mountaineering Council. We emphasise that members must take full responsibility for their own safety when climbing and in the mountains and the Club cannot accept liability for any accident, however caused. The BMC Participation Statement applies:
“The BMC recognises that climbing, hill walking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.”
